Issue #002, June 2026
Hello, dear reader!
In this issue of ZAO, we present The Offline Exercise: Hypotheses on “Return”, a group exhibition exploring how contemporary life is shaped by digital technologies, systems of control, and the accelerating pace of networked culture.
Bringing together artists working across moving image, installation, photography, sound, performance, painting, and experimental media, the exhibition asks a simple yet urgent question: what does it mean to return? Not to the past, but to presence, attention, embodiment, and ways of being that resist technological saturation.
Across the works featured in this issue, viewers encounter reflections on surveillance, memory, migration, gender, identity, ecology, speculative futures, and the invisible structures that shape everyday experience. Each artist offers a distinct perspective on how we might reconnect with ourselves, others, and the world around us.
We hope this issue encourages moments of reflection, curiosity, and renewed attention.
Enjoy reading.
