Solo Exhibition

The Fluid Self

24 - 28 November 2025

The recent conclusion of "The Fluid Self," a solo exhibition by artist and composer Wu Bowen in Glasgow, has left a resonant mark on the city’s creative and academic landscapes. Far from a static display of works, the exhibition functions as a profound inquiry into the intersections of identity, perception, and site within the volatile contexts of contemporary migration. Through a rigorous cross-media practice, Wu weaves sound, moving image, installation, and custom-engineered digital instruments into a spatial environment in a constant state of becoming.

Throughout the exhibition, space is treated not merely as a container but as a fluid interface—a threshold where memory, emotion, and consciousness perpetually coalesce and dissolve. By navigating the oscillation between the "stage" and the "white cube," Wu employs spatial tension as a conceptual device rather than a mere scenographic choice, pointedly interrogating the shifting conditions of visibility, spectatorship, and self-positioning.

In this expanded field of practice, the artwork is repositioned as a site of active tension. Here, meaning is neither inherited nor automated; instead, it is deliberately enacted through the encounter between the body and the medium. By dissolving the boundaries between performative elements and digital materiality, "The Fluid Self" offers an experience that is at once deeply immersive and sharply critical, inviting us to witness the self not as a fixed entity, but as a continuous process of translation.
